Professor Osman Mohamed Bah obituary
Professor Osman Mohamed Bah, who passed away on Friday 26th April 2019, was a key pillar of Njala University and the Sierra Leone Urban Research Centre (SLURC).
Professor Bah was a graduate of both Njala University, and University College London (UCL)’s Department of Geography where he earned both his MSc and PhD. Since joining the academic staff of Njala University in the mid 1980s, he rose through the ranks to become lecturer 1, senior lecturer and finally, a professor. Professor Bah was an academic, a researcher, and a leader – rising from Head of the Department of Biological Sciences to Dean of the School of Environmental Sciences (SES). He also served as Director of the Institute of Environmental Management and Quality Control. Nevertheless, he taught most in the Institute of Geography and Development Studies (IGDS), where he is revered by many staff and students for his mentorship and unceasing support. As Dean of the SES, Professor Bah was a key management board member of SLURC. His meaningful contributions towards shaping SLURC’s daily activities will be sorely missed. |
