About this project
The Urban Humanitarian Response and Empowerment project is a research project that focuses on the role urban humanitarian response is playing in the empowerment of groups and organizations of slum dwellers. It is currently being implemented in the Portee/ Rokupa community in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The project targets different audiences and scales from the community to humanitarian agencies and unto government authorities.
Also, this research project is geared towards exploring the extent to which approaches have been able to build the capacity of slum dwellers’ groups, foster collaboration among different stakeholders, enable critical learning, and opened opportunities for the recognition of the diverse needs and aspirations of vulnerable groups within the wider policy and planning environment.
Therefore, the research seeks to know:

- What role do urban humanitarian responses play in the empowerment of the urban poor?
- Structural drivers; external occurrences in the landscape that expose opportunities and risks assets of households, groups and community.
